It’s not often I’m on my way back from a city break immediately pinning spots to my Google Map for my next visit, but Amsterdam is a special place like that. A recent trip with my Mum was the third visit in eight years and once again I was looking up jobs in the city on the flight back, as well as lingering by estate agent windows just to see what property prices are looking like (spoiler: EXPENSIVE). Between this and my love of Copenhagen I think all the signs are pointing to the fact that I really need to live in a city with good cycle infrastructure to truly feel at peace. In the meantime though, here are my reccs for the city and where I’ll be booking when I inevitably return.
Speaking of Google Maps, if you want to see all my favourite spots in the city in one place, you can purchase my Amsterdam Google Map for £7 in the link below. Paid subs — fear not, I’ve added the link to the map beyond the paywall of this post as a thank you for your support.
Eat + Drink
A no-reservations spot where you’ll spot the cool crowd of Amsterdam. I’d recommend choosing their set menu where they’ll serve their pick of five courses. There’s something I find thrilling about a ‘dealers choice’ type ordering system with not knowing what will come next. Perhaps something to do with my very type-A personality which means I usually have the menu memorised before visiting a place?!
The most inventive brunch dishes I’ve tried! This spot in De Pijp is the breakfast-focussed sister restaurant to Collins. Get there early on a weekend — again, no reservations.
There’s something special about dining on the sun-dappled terrace at this French bistro-style restaurant located on a quiet residential street in Oud-West. Expect a menu of delightfully light dishes served on mis-matched antique tableware and an excellent wine list (although I always go for a carafe of the excellent house rosé).
